Before Conditions

  • Poorly designed vanity storage

  • The large built-in tub overwhelmed the room and blocked access to the window

  • The shower was compact and had water damage

Client Objectives

  • Updated finishes while keeping the soft neutral palette they love

  • Enlarging the shower

  • A freestanding soaking tub
  • Improved storage in the bathroom and the adjacent vanity nook

Design Solutions

  • Removed soffit over vanity and narrowed archway to the adjacent vanity nook

  • Lengthened the bathroom vanity and incorporated more drawers for functional storage

  • Removed the built-in tub and enlarged the shower footprint
  • Replaced the glass block shower window with a full pane window framed in quartz for durability
  • New freestanding tub allows acccess to the window and makes the room feel even larger

  • Reconfigured storage in vanity nook to provide more linen and laundry storage while keeping the make up counter scaled for every day use

The Details That Make It Work

  • Created a three tier recessed shower niche in the rear corner that ties seamlessly into the quartz window frame

  • New gold custom framed mirrors and sconces bring subtle glamour, a significant upgrade from the original builder basic mirror

About Colleen

I live in Minneapolis with my landscape architect/urban designer husband, my volleyball & Taylor Swift loving daughter who believes she’s my design assistant, an independent Siamese, a feisty grey-striped kitten, and a menagerie of turkeys and other wild animals who visit our backyard for the free food. When I’m not designing, you’ll often find me cooking up a Paleo feast, cheering for my daughter's volleyball team, playing pickleball, or hiding in a corner with my nose in a book.
