From the Client
We’ve done several large home remodel projects (kitchen and then two bathrooms) with Colleen. I can’t imagine these big endeavors without her and her team at Fox Interiors.
She brings everything one could possibly want in a designer. She listens first, understands design wants, wishes and priorities. She’s creative, but creativity aligned with the client. She’s practical, finding reasonably priced options when needed, and also knowing when spending a little extra $$ will get you something truly unique and exceptional. She’s outstanding at problem-solving the inevitable issues that arise when taking on a larger project. She’s on time–a true project management expert. And she’s fun to work with!
I’d honestly remodel something just to work with her. She knows her way around a construction site and understands how to communicate well with everyone involved. I can’t speak highly enough about working with Colleen!
Before Conditions
-
Dark cabinets and laminate counters in the kitchen felt visually heavy
-
The cooktop located in the small island didn’t allow space for food prep
-
Half the kitchen didn’t have cabinetry and was underutilized
-
The primary bath lacked functional storage where they needed it
-
The wall between the vanity and the toilet and shower area of the primary bath restricted flow and made the room feel smaller
Client Objectives
-
Updated brighter palette that was still warm and inviting in all rooms
-
Improving cooking work zone
-
Add a zone for coffee preparation in the kitchen
-
Update the eat-in kitchen with a desk area for household management tasks
-
Improve storage in the primary bathroom
-
Create a more warm and relaxing vibe in the primary bathroom
Design Solutions
-
Warm gray cabinetry in the kitchen paired with new wood-look LVT floors, and a soft palette of earth tones in the backsplash tile
-
Soffit in the kitchen eliminated to help ceilings feel taller and improve storage
-
Relocated the cooking zone to the wall to allow for a professional range with good ventilation and plenty of prep space on both sides
-
Converted an open wall to a coffee station for these avid coffee connoisseurs.
-
On the opposite wall we created a banquette for casual everyday meals that transitions into a floating desk, perfect for managing life’s craziness in the heart of the home.
-
The primary bath has a warm, modern palette featuring soft green cabinetry, sage green ceramic tile with a high variation glaze and a fun accent tile with gold and silver tones in the shower niche that ties together the brass and brushed nickel fixtures and accessories, and a herringbone wood-look tile flooring that anchors the space with warmth.
-
The primary bathroom was opened up by removing a wall between the vanity and the toilet, switching to pocket doors, and enlarging the shower.
-
Added a new custom closet system
-
The hall bath was updated without structural changes with a new vanity, shower and tub combo, and new tile in a warm take on the classic black and white palette.
The Details That Make It Work
-
Created a drop zone inside the narrow end cabinet on the refrigerator wall, perfect for quick access to keys and the mail drop zone as it’s just off the garage
-
The sliding shower door system allows for easy access without a door swing bumping into the toilet seat.
-
The closet across from the vanity was updated with a pocket door, eliminating the previous space stealing small swinging doors.
-
Storage features include a pull out hamper for quick sorting of dirty laundry and a tall cabinet on the counter that provides storage at an easy to grab height.

About Colleen
I live in Minneapolis with my landscape architect/urban designer husband, my volleyball & Taylor Swift loving daughter who believes she’s my design assistant, an independent Siamese, a feisty grey-striped kitten, and a menagerie of turkeys and other wild animals who visit our backyard for the free food. When I’m not designing, you’ll often find me cooking up a Paleo feast, cheering for my daughter's volleyball team, playing pickleball, or hiding in a corner with my nose in a book.
